Riccardo Francaviglia and Margherita Sgarlata live in the province of Catania and are husband and wife: he writes the stories and draws them, she colors them. Their first book was published in 2000, since then they have illustrated and written about thirty books, manuals and books for children, some of which published in Switzerland, Germany, England, Korea and Portugal. Their work as illustrators was put at the service of AGESCI (association of Italian Catholic guides and scouts) for which they made the centenary calendar and two commemorative stamps. Riccardo teaches “Illustration” at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania and promotes reading in schools by organizing and managing, together with Margherita, storytelling workshops. Together they carry their puppetry shows around, in which they dust off old Sicilian stories and fairy tales, re-reading them with their typical irony much appreciated by the public.
