The difficult years
These are the years characterized by the consequences of the circular 3/2003 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) which progressively put an end, After 30 years, to the co -financing of adult courses. To the progressive reduction of these courses (and 55 a 3) The corresponding reduction by the Mae of the contingent of ministerial teachers is then accompanied (of-Ruolo) and 6 Only 1 At the end of the period. If the ESI had managed to satisfy the request for training in Italian every year of about every year 500 beyond 700 adult students, in 2013 This number had drastically reduced to just 32 pupils!
To this unexpected decision by the Italian Ministerial Authorities was added the world financial crisis caused by the bankruptcy of Banca Leman Brothers (Subprimes crisis), which gave rise to very heavy restrictions also on the ministerial contributions paid by the Mae to the ASI.
Also for the ESI, it was therefore a game to adapt its activities to the available financial resources, By reducing the teaching for adults as mentioned and essentially focusing on children's teaching. However, the prudent administrative management of the institution by voluntary staff (unpaid), the elimination of any expenditure that is not strictly indispensable for the management of the courses, Economies made in previous years, the rationalization of the courses themselves e, lastly, a small increase in the registration fee required to families for each student, they allowed ASI for almost the whole period to avoid inconvenience to users and even to sometimes open new courses!
Unfortunately in the last two years of the period (2012/2013) The world economic crisis reached its peak, with even sudden cuts by the Mae of a further 10% during the school year on the contributions already allocated! To give an idea of the weight of these restrictions, In a single year the ESI passed from a ministerial contribution of 180.000 euro per alone 40.0000 euro! Many managers similar to ASI in other countries were forced to suspend their activity and in some cases to dissolve definitively, for lack of financial resources.
Even the ESI was therefore forced to a sharp downsizing of its activities, with the forced suppression also of many of their elementary/medium courses. Once again however, thanks to the aforementioned reasons, However, the performes managed to limit the “danni” and a “glide” on the crest of the crisis wave, ensuring in the two -year period respectively 18 and 13 of the 38 existing courses in 2010! This “miraculous” company was in any case made possible by the unconditional support of the families of the students who accepted an increase (In some cases particularly high) of the registration contribution in order not to interrupt the Italian training of their children.
A support that demonstrates, If doubts there were, The importance that the Italian/Italian Film Community in the Netherlands have always attributed to the didactic activity of the ASI. A certificate of trust of which the administrative staff and teacher of the ASI who over the years has operated and operates for this success can only be proud and of which it is sincerely grateful.
